Quick eligibility check

Can my company claim HRD Corp for AI training?

Two-minute version: in almost all cases, yes. Here is the short list of conditions to check before you go further.

Yes, you can claim if…

  • You are an HRD Corp registered employer (mandatory or voluntary)
  • Your company is current on its monthly levy payments
  • The course is run by an HRD Corp registered training provider
  • The grant application is filed before the training begins
  • You can produce attendance records, certificates, and proof of payment

Pause and check if…

  • Your company is not yet registered with HRD Corp on the eTRiS portal
  • Your levy balance is below the course cost (you can still claim up to your balance)
  • You want to claim retroactively for training that already happened
  • The trainer you want is not HRD Corp registered (workarounds exist — see below)

None of the items above are deal-breakers by themselves — most have a workaround. The FAQ covers the workarounds.

Quick math

Your levy balance is your AI training budget.

HRD Corp-mandatory employers pay 1% of monthly payroll as levy. That accumulates with HRD Corp as a balance you can spend on training. A typical Malaysian SME (50 staff, average monthly payroll RM 7,500) accumulates roughly RM 45,000 in levy per year — enough for several AI training cohorts.

Real claim ceilings and percentages are set by HRD Corp and vary by scheme. The numbers above are illustrative — check hrdcorp.gov.my for current figures.
